The Gifted and Talented department of Eagle County School District hosted geography, history and science bees at Homestake Peak School in December to wrap up the first semester of classes. The three competitions combined into one massive day of academic engagement.
This marked the first time Eagle County School District has hosted the event in-person, following three years of virtual competitions.
The regional tournament brought together students 112 students between 3rd and 8th grade from Eagle County School District, Aspen School District and Roaring Fork School District.
The geography, history and science bees are nationally recognized, quiz-style academic competitions for students. To earn a spot at the regional level, students first qualified through an online regional qualifying Exam. At the in-person tournament, students competed in small group, buzzer-based rounds featuring paragraph-style questions that progressed from challenging to more accessible clues. Students advanced through preliminary rounds and finals, with official scoring conducted by trained competition judges.
Eagle County School District students demonstrated exceptional academic achievement across all three content areas. Students who placed first, second or third in their events earned advancement to national and international competitions. The national championship competition will be held over Memorial Day weekend in Orlando, Florida. The international championship competition will be held in Khao Lak, Thailand from July 5-12.
