At a time when science and technology are rapidly reshaping everyday life, Kalyani University on Friday emerged as a vibrant hub of ideas and innovation with the inauguration of a two-day mega science conclave, jointly organised with the West Bengal government’s department of science & technology and biotechnology.
The conference was formally inaugurated at the APJ Abdul Kalam Auditorium by Ujjal Biswas, minister-in-charge of science & technology and biotechnology. Emphasising the broader objective of the conclave, the minister said the platform was designed to highlight the latest developments in science and technology and to facilitate meaningful collaboration among scientists and researchers. “By bringing researchers together, we are creating space to discuss new research, recent advances and innovative solutions to contemporary problems,” he noted.

Vice-Chancellor of Kalyani University, Prof Kallol Pal, underlined the academic significance of the initiative, particularly for young minds. “The primary aim is to nurture scientific temper and curiosity among students and researchers. In an era of fast-paced technological advancement, such science congresses are essential to help students keep pace with emerging trends,” he said.

Lauding the intellectual calibre of students from the state, Padma Shri and IIT Kanpur professor Vinod Kumar Singh observed that Bengal’s scientific talent has long contributed to research institutions across the country. He also stressed the need for enhanced government funding to further strengthen research careers in science and technology.
According to the organisers, researchers from 22 universities across Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, Nadia, North 24-Parganas and South 24-Parganas are participating in the conclave. Nodal Officer Prof Ashish Panigrahi said research papers were submitted across 12 disciplines, including physics, chemistry, zoology, computer science and technology. “Abstracts of scientific papers authored by 240 researchers have been compiled into a 278-page volume, which was released today,” he added.
Prof Amiya Panda, Vice-Chancellor of Rani Rashmoni Green University, highlighted the inclusive and forward-looking nature of the event. “The speakers selected are internationally reputed scholars who actively promote scientific discourse in the mother tongue. This gathering will help take national-level science, technology and biotechnology research forward,” he said.
Special Secretary of department of science & technology, Indrajit Talukdar, traced the journey of scientific progress from early human discoveries to modern innovation, remarking that science has consistently eased human hardship and improved quality of life.
The inaugural session witnessed the presence of nearly 500 researchers, students and academicians, along with several eminent dignitaries, including Vice-Chancellors of Kanyashree University, Burdwan University, West Bengal University of Animal and Fishery Sciences, Mahatma Gandhi University, and former Vice-Chancellor of Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology, Odisha, among others.
