THE Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said it has formally notified the Embassy of Oman in Manila over concerns about a requirement for Filipino travelers to present a negative HIV medical certificate when entering Oman.
The DFA said in a statement it has made “strong representations” urging Omani authorities to remove the policy, which it views as a potential barrier to travel for Filipinos.
The Omani Embassy said that the HIV certificate requirement applies only to Filipino tourists availing themselves of visa-free entry, and not to those holding work visas. The distinction, according to the embassy, limits the scope of the policy but has not quelled concerns raised by Philippine officials.
The embassy said the requirement is currently under “serious review” by the Omani government. A meeting is scheduled next week to further deliberate on the matter, signaling the possibility of policy adjustments.
The DFA expressed optimism that the issue will be resolved favorably, citing the long-standing and cooperative ties between the Philippines and Oman.
Officials have not yet indicated when a final decision may be announced.
