The Swift Current Tourist Camp began as a site with two out-houses by the creek and space for passing motorists and travellers to pitch tents for the night.
The Swift Current Museum says that as automobiles became more common and road infrastructure improved, tourism began to pick up in the southwest, and the camp was developed by the Swift Current Board of Trade.
In 1928, a total of 528 vehicles from Canada and 182 vehicles from America stopped at the camp, boosting the local economy by around $5,000, which is equivalent to roughly $96,550 today.
The Swift Current Board of Trade invested a significant amount into the camp during the late 1920s. In 1933, cabins were built, and later, bathing facilities were added.
During the height of its era, the camp was said to boast 14 cabins, a camp kitchen, shower baths, reasonable rates, and unparalleled service.
