Think sports are all about what happens on the field? Think again. Behind that touchdown is a whole lot of science. And The Buffalo Museum of Science is getting ready to show you exactly how it all works with Science Stadium.
It’s the museum’s first brand-new permanent exhibit since 2018, and they’ve pulled out all the stops. Created in partnership with the Buffalo Bills, Buffalo Sabres, and Buffalo Bandits, Science Stadium brings together two very Buffalo things. Sports and STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics).
And trust us, this is way more hands-on than staring at a bunch of displays.

Think 17 immersive experiences where you can step into the world of pro sports. Test your athletic skills in a state-of-the-art sports simulator. Learn how physics, training, and technology affect athletic performance. Get behind the anchor desk and record your very own highlight-reel sportscast. You can even create your own mascot.
Who knew a museum visit could be this much fun?
And that’s just the beginning.

You’ll also get to know the real-life STEM professionals working behind the scenes in sports. Here, they get their own moment as the MVPs — “Most Valuable Professionals.” Because engineers, data analysts, medical professionals, and technology specialists all play a role in making the action happen. We just don’t realize it.
Another place the museum gives you a behind-the-scenes look? Construction of the new Highmark Stadium, the focus of Built for Buffalo, a new complementary exhibit.

If you’ve been to the new stadium and thought, “How the heck did they build that?” — this is your chance to find out. And if you haven’t been yet (same), there’s an impressive 11-foot 3D model of Highmark Stadium. Which (obviously) isn’t the same, but will get you all excited (read: impatient) until you can go see the real thing. Here, you can sit in some actual stadium seats and snap a photo at a player locker to keep your impatience at bay — for now.
In short: Science Stadium and Built for Buffalo offer a whole new way to experience Buffalo’s teams. So come for the sports. Stay for the science. Leave wondering why every museum exhibit can’t have a sports simulator.
