Sony has delayed the Helldivers movie.
Justin Lin’s video game adaptation now opens June 9, 2028, The Hollywood Reporter reports. It was previously dated for November 10, 2027.
That’s a seven-month delay, and it comes amid the movie’s casting changes, per THR.

Momoa Out, Ritchson In
Jason Momoa exited the movie in June, leaving Sony to find a new star for the Arrowhead Game Studios adaptation.
On September 18, Deadline reported Alan Ritchson was in talks to replace him. THR now says Lin’s film will star Ritchson.
As we reported at the time, sources said Ritchson picked Helldivers over James Gunn’s Batman, which was only going to be a cameo in Man of Tomorrow.
The movie lost its star in June and landed a new one in September. The new date gives Lin more time to build the movie around Ritchson instead of racing a November 2027 deadline.

From November To Summer 2028
The move takes Helldivers out of the 2027 holiday season and into summer 2028, when studios roll out their biggest action movies.
Lin directs from a script started by Gary Dauberman, and plot details are still under wraps.
Sony didn’t leave November 2027 empty. Ridley Scott’s Treasure Island, starring Hugh Jackman, is set for November 11, 2027, one day after Helldivers‘ old date.
Scott’s movie is separate from MGM+’s Treasure Island series with David Oyelowo, which premieres October 11.
And 24 Jump Street follows on December 10, 2027, with Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum back as Schmidt and Jenko.
