Two spies just held a rendezvous in Glen Ridge for a special operation — a new Netflix film.
Actors Kevin Hart and Henry Cavill play a spy duo in the upcoming movie, which filmed outside a private home in the borough Wednesday morning.
Netflix recently said the movie was still untitled, but chairs on the film set bore the title “The Serpent and the Snake,” along with a graphic showing the outline of two spies with guns drawn. It’s unclear if that’s a code name for the production or an actual film title.
Hart was wearing a Joy Division T-shirt, plaid pajama pants and slides with socks. Cavill, who wore an all-black ensemble of elbow-patched jacket and jeans, sat on a motorcycle.
In the scenes being filmed, Hart examines a phone screen and shows its contents to Cavill. Parked nearby: his character’s lime-green Porsche.
Per Netflix, the spy movie, being helmed by the director McG (“Charlie’s Angels,” the upcoming “Way of the Warrior Kid”), stars Hart and Cavill as spy rivals who find themselves in the same Lamaze class with their wives.
The film was written by sisters Wendy and Lizzie Molyneux (“The Great North,” “Bob’s Burgers”), brothers Adam and Aaron Nee (“Masters of the Universe”) and Jonathan Tropper (“Lucky”).
The cast of the Hart-produced movie includes Justine Lupe (“Succession”), Aja Naomi King (“Lessons in Chemistry”) and Jason Isaacs (“The White Lotus”).
Hart, 47, is no stranger to spy movies, having starred with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in “Central Intelligence” (2016). He also led the Netflix heist film “Lift” (2024), where he plays a thief who works with an Interpol agent.
Hart is a perennial Netflix favorite, whether for his stand-up specials or comedy films. His most recent Netflix movie, “72 Hours,” filmed across New Jersey and ranked No. 1 on the streamer’s movie list upon release.
Cavill, 43, is native of that other Jersey — the one in the Channel Islands. He’s known for playing Superman in the DC films, starting with “Man of Steel” (2013). Cavill also has quite the spy movie resume, which includes “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.” (2015), “Mission Impossible — Fallout” (2018) and “Argylle” (2024).
