CHICO, Calif. — The Chico Area Recreation & Park District is hosting a special Movies in the Park event on Sept. 11 to honor first responders and veterans. The free evening at Veterans Memorial Park will include a tribute to those who serve the community, followed by a screening of Captain America: The First Avenger.
The event will recognize members of the Chico Fire Department, Chico Police Department, V.I.P.S., veterans, and other first responders in attendance. Festivities begin at 6 p.m. with activities and food trucks, while the movie starts around 7:45 p.m. at dusk.
“Sept. 11 asks something of all of us — a moment to remember, and a moment to be grateful for those who show up when it matters most,” said Annabel Grimm, General Manager of the Chico Area Recreation & Park District. “There’s something fitting about honoring that at Veterans Memorial Park with a film about ordinary courage.”
Grimm encouraged neighbors to come out, thank a first responder or veteran they see, and enjoy the tradition together under the stars. Free movie theater popcorn will be available, and guests can purchase treats from local food trucks.
Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets, folding chairs, and the people they care about for an evening of connection and remembrance. The event runs from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Park, located at 100 Wildwood Avenue in Chico.
