Montclair NJ ZIP code ranks among hottest in nation for homebuying
Montclair (07042) is 2026’s 2nd hottest ZIP code, according to Realtor.com.
- The 2026 Montclair Film Festival runs Oct. 16-25, with screenings programmed across two cinemas and the historic Wellmont Theater.
- “Behemoth!” starring Pedro Pascal, makes a quick stop across the Hudson premiering as the New York Film Festival’s centerpiece before arriving to close out Montclair Film’s 15th annual showcase.
Montclair Film, a local cinema non-profit, announced the tentpole titles of its 15th annual festival, which runs from Oct. 16-25 with programming set to screen across the township’s two movie houses, including the newly renovated Bellevue, and the historic Wellmont Theater.
The festival’s opening night begins with a 7 p.m. screening of playwright and filmmaker Martin McDonagh’s “Wild Horse Nine” follows CIA agents Chris (John Malkovic) and Lee (Sam Rockwell) as the spies are dispatched to Easter Island just before the Chilean coup of 1973. On the remote South American territory, Chris befriends two college students, haplessly testing the trust of his long-time partner. Much like McDonagh’s 2008 breakout film, “In Bruges,” his latest work seamlessly blends suspense, intrigue, action and dark comedy.
A biopic may seem like an odd choice to serve as Montclair Film Festival’s official fiction centerpiece, but while Simon Stone’s “Elsinore” may be rooted in the true story of actor Ian Charleson (“Chariots of Fire,” 1981,) the movie is itself portrays an unlikely triumph amid grave expectations. Barely one year before his death from complications related to AIDS in 1990, Charleson summoned the strength to offer his fans one final performance as Hamlet, according to a review in The Guardian. In fact, Charleson took the role to replace Daniel Day-Lewis despite the terminal illness that would claim is life in a matter of months.
In a yet-more-curious turn, Stone’s ode to the art of performance features Andrew Scott, who played the Danish prince himself in a 2017 London production, returns to the role by way of portraying Charleson in his final work and swan song to the art he lived for ― in such literal terms it’s as haunting as Hamlet’s father ― but answering Shakespeare’s famous dilemma that ’tis better to be while one still can.
“Elsinore” screens Sunday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m., although the theater has not yet been announced.
To close this year’s festival, Montclair Film’s programmers selected yet another tale of a performer’s dogged return to the stage in “Behemoth!” In his directorial debut, screenwriter Tony Gilroy ― best known for thrillers such as “Michael Clayton and the “Bourne Identity” series ― focuses his lens on Alex (Pedro Pascal,) a former child prodigy who flees his seat as a symphony cellist in Chicago, returning home to Los Angles with his tale between his legs and his heart in tatters, according to a recent write-up in the Hollywood Reporter.
Back on the coast, Alex must face his family of renowned musicians while finding new footing and artistic breath scoring films for Hollywood. “Behemoth!” makes a quick stop across the Hudson serving as the New York Film Festival’s centerpiece before arriving to close out Montclair Film’s 2026 program with a 6 p.m. screening on Sunday, Oct. 25 in the Montclair Kimberly Academy auditorium.
The full Montclair Film Festival program is set to drop on Sept. 25, 2026. Early release tickets will be available to Montclair Film members only beginning 10 a.m. on Sept. 28, and to the public on Oct. 1, through the organization’s website at MontclairFilm.org.
