Sony’s latest reboot is another game-based flick that’s earning a far larger percentage (compared to 2010s releases) of its global box office in North America
Sony has announced that Resident Evil has passed $200 million after two weeks in global theatrical play. That includes $103.4 million in North America and $100 million overseas for a $205.34 million worldwide cume. Bemusingly, it marks the fastest sprint to the milestone for the respective IP, mostly because Resident Evil: The Final Chapter didn’t open in China until late February 2017, a month or so after it had already opened everywhere else. Sans China’s $160 million total (a shocking overperformance for any otherwise underwhelming Hollywood tentpole, let alone an R-rated splatter flick), Resident Evil 6 would’ve earned just $154 million worldwide.
