KOHIMA, SEPTEMBER 21 (MExN): The Department of English at Kohima Science College, Jotsoma, organized a one-day orientation and training session on first aid for first-semester students on Saturday. The event, held in the college’s conference hall, was conducted in collaboration with the Indian Red Cross Society, Nagaland State Branch, as part of the Skill Enhancement Course under the Four-year Undergraduate Program of NEP 2020.
Akhale V. Khamo, general secretary of the Indian Red Cross Society, Nagaland State Branch, served as the special guest. She shared a brief history of the Red Cross movement, including its founding by Henry Dunant, and highlighted the society’s humanitarian principles and ongoing initiatives in Nagaland, such as disaster relief and community service. She stressed the importance of first aid skills for everyday emergencies and urged students to participate in blood donation drives.
The program began with an introductory session chaired by Dr Seyiekhrielie Whiso, head of the Department of English. Moasangla, vice principal of the college, expressed gratitude to the Red Cross Society for their support and emphasized the value of first aid training in providing students with practical skills beyond the classroom.
Following the introductory remarks, Kholie Dolf, a managing committee member of the Red Cross Society and master trainer, conducted a hands-on training session in the college’s Language Laboratory, where students practiced various first aid techniques.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Mungyani Yanthan, a student representative, who expressed appreciation to the trainers and the Department of English for organizing the session.
This training is part of the college’s efforts to align with the goals of NEP 2020, aiming to provide holistic education and equip students with essential life-saving skills.
