Patna: The state capital would get A P J Abdul Kalam Science City by June next year. This was announced by state science and technology minister Sumit Kumar Singh here on Monday.
Talking to mediapersons, the minister said: “Around 80% of the work of science city has been completed. The remaining work will also be over by June next year.”
“Science City will showcase science and technology in an exciting manner.In fact, this, together with the Indira Gandhi Planetarium here, is aimed at developing scientific temperament among people,” science and technology department secretary Dr Pratima said. “Besides, today, all the 38 districts have a state engineering college, and there are 46 polytechnic institutes, too. Engineering colleges are imparting quality education to students, and also polytechnics are honing technical skills of the students in various trades as per the demand of industry,” she said, adding that except one polytechnic, that is running in a rented private building, all the engineering colleges and 45 polytechnics have their buildings constructed by the govt.
Dr Pratima said owing to the quality education and development of skills of the students in various trades, they have been getting placements in high-end companies. “As many as 3,479 students, who passed out from engineering colleges and another 4,719 coming out of polytechnics, totalling to 8,197, got placements in companies during 2023-24,” she said.
She also said that admission of students in engineering colleges and polytechnics was over 80% of the sanctioned strength in the first phase of counselling this year, and more admissions would take place in the second phase.
Pertaining to the first year of the 2024-25 academic session, the seats for B Tech students is 14,469, and the number of seats in state polytechnics is 17,084, and the seats for M Tech courses in the engineering colleges is 612. “By now, 12,280 seats for B Tech students, 13,912 for polytechnics and 386 seats for M Tech courses have already been allotted,” she said.
“In fact, the percentage of students getting admitted in the state’s engineering colleges and polytechnics in the govt sector has shown sustained increase over the last three academic sessions,” Dr Pratima added.
In the last two years, as many as 1,458 teachers have been posted in the state engineering colleges, and 727 teachers in polytechnics. The requisition has been sent for the appointment of teachers in the second lot.
