On October 17 and 18, 2024, an international scientific conference titled ” Southeast Europe Silversmithing: Artisans, Donors and the Idea of Piety in the Early Modern Period” will be held in Sofia. The event is part of the project “Liturgical Objects in the Context of Silversmiths’ Art during the Ottoman Period (based on materials from the Plovdiv Diocese)”, funded by the Bulgarian National Science Fund, Ministry of Education and Science. The forum aims to gather specialists with interests and expertise in the field of applied art with religious use and goldsmithing.
Twenty-six specialists from prestigious scientific organizations, universities and cultural institutions from Bulgaria, Austria, Armenia, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Romania, the USA, Serbia, Hungary and Croatia will participate at the conference. They will discuss topics related to the production and circulation of liturgical objects and their role in shaping the pious image of the faithful in Southeast Europe between the 15th and 19th centuries.
