EAU CLAIRE (WQOW) – It’s Wisconsin Science Festival week across the state, and in Eau Claire, kids got the chance to explore all things STEM-related.
The Pablo Center, L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library and the Children’s Museum of Eau Claire hosted a whole day of science, technology, engineering and math activities. It kicked off with several organizations like Mayo Clinic Health System, Wildlands Charter School and the Leviathans robotics team sharing science-related fun with the community.
Visitors had a chance to see robots, explore biology and according to 11th grader Lucy Zeug from Wildlands Charter School, learn how local bugs can paint a picture of the pollution in waterways.
“We look at what types of insects we have, and then we add up how many from each group we have and we can figure out how much nitrates are in the water, how much hydrogen peroxide is in the water and then basically the pollution level,” Zeug said.
Later in the afternoon, the activities moved to new locations with scientific demonstrations held at both the Children’s Museum and the library, creating what Pablo STEAM program manager Mary Laventure described as a “triangle of science in downtown Eau Claire.”
