Jakarta (ANTARA) – The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) is pushing for Indonesia to strengthen its science diplomacy on the global stage to demonstrate the country’s expertise in addressing various problems through evidence-based presentations at international forums.
Deputy for Development Policy at BRIN Mego Pinandito stated that other countries in international forums are particularly interested in Indonesia’s approaches to issues such as harmony between people of different ethnicities and religions, climate and nature, and food diversification.
However, a communication gap exists where diplomats face challenges in presenting scientific data, while researchers struggle with diplomatic protocol. This has resulted in limited international recognition of Indonesia’s research achievements.
“This is why we need to actively help Indonesian delegates, for example, in preparing scientific content that will be proposed by Indonesia in various international sessions,” he highlighted.
He explained that BRIN’s numerous research centers conducted research in various fields in Indonesia, providing scientific explanations for various phenomena occurring in Indonesia.
Pinandito cited as an example that Indonesia had successfully maintained national unity despite its cultural diversity, noting that similar diversity often leads to conflict between groups in other nations.
He further noted that international organizations expect Indonesia to be able to share its approaches to address conflicts.
In this regard, the BRIN organized a seminar titled “Increasing the Role and Contribution of BRIN’s Research Results and Strengthening Indonesia’s Science Diplomacy Strategy” in Jakarta on October 28, 2024, with attendees comprising representatives of BRIN’s research centers.
The event also invited diplomatic experts, such as Indonesian Ambassador to Tunisia for the 2017-2021 period Ikrar Nusa Bhakti.
