Northern Kentucky University will break ground this week on an $86 million expansion to one of its campus buildings.On Thursday, state leaders will be in Highland Heights as construction begins on the Dorothy Westerman Herrmann Science Center.The project will add an 85,400-square foot addition to the science center, with the goal of consolidating spaces, while also enhancing its lab and student research space.Funding for the project is coming from a $79.9 million capital investment approved by the Kentucky General Assembly, as well as $6 million in asset preservation funds.“This expansion marks a significant milestone for the university,” NKU President Dr. Cady Short-Thompson said. “The new facility will provide our natural sciences and engineering technology programs with a competitive edge, supporting our growing enrollment in these critical fields while allowing us to continue to provide an accessible and high-quality education for all.”The university said it expects the project to be completed by the spring of 2027.The groundbreaking ceremony will be held Thursday at 11 a.m.
