BINTULU (Nov 6): A total of 30 preschoolers took part in the Little Scientist@UPM 2024 programme recently.
The programme held at the Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Campus (UPMKB) was organised by the Department of Science and Technology in collaboration with Lollipop Childcare Centre.
“By giving young children hands-on, playful experiences in science and technology, we hope to inspire their curiosity and creativity from a young age,” said programme chairperson Dr Ellie Teo Yi Lih in a statement.
“This programme allows them to explore the basics of science in a fun, nurturing environment.”
She said the goal was to build a foundation to motivate these children to pursue their interests as they grow.
“We look forward to expanding this programme in the coming years to reach even more children and foster a generation of passionate, innovative thinkers,” said Teo.
UPMKB said the initiative designed for children aged four to six aimed to introduce foundational science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) concepts through engaging and hands-on activities.
The children had the opportunity to step into the world of science within a real laboratory setting at UPMKB’s Inorganic Chemistry Lab.
The programme’s activities included experiments with drones, colourful rainbow potions, a balloon water fountain demonstration, and engaging math games.
Each activity was tailored to nurture creativity, encourage problem-solving, and foster a lifelong interest in STEM.
Little Scientist@UPM 2024 is part of a broader initiative by UPMKB to promote educational collaboration and encourage interest in STEM fields at grassroots level.
