2024’s final set of King Tides have led to minor coastal flooding over the past few days. Low lying areas all across the region were inundated with the higher than usual water levels, as was the case in Watch Hill.
The reasoning behind the high water levels has to do with a maximized gravitational force being exerted on the ocean. When the moon’s perigee (closet point to earth) lines up with a new or full moon, tide levels reach their highest of the year. Storm Team 10 meteorologist A.J. Mastrangelo explains more:
