BUTUAN CITY – The province of Dinagat Islands on Tuesday celebrated the achievement of Glaizel Morados, a Grade 13 student from the island-province, who won a gold medal at the Southeast Asia International Science Olympiad held in Osaka, Japan, on Dec. 19.
“On behalf of the people of Dinagat Islands, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Ms. Glaizel Morados for her outstanding achievement under the mentorship of Coach Villareal,” Gov. Nilo Demerey Jr. said in a statement.
Morados is a student at Don Ruben Edera Ecleo Sr. Memorial National High School in San Jose town.
On Monday, the student and her coach, John Kenneth Villareal, received P77,000 in cash assistance from the provincial government.
Demerey lauded Morados’s brilliance, perseverance, and dedication, which brought immense pride to her school and the province.
“You have proven that the youth of Dinagat Islands are capable of competing with the best in the world,” the governor said.
Last August, Morados won the silver at the Southeast Asia national round of the International Science Olympiad Competition.
“Continue to aim higher, for your journey uplifts us all. May your success ignite the passion of other young Dinagatnons to pursue excellence in science, education, and beyond,” Demerey said. (PNA)
