Middle and High School Students to Compete in NJ’s Foremost STEM competition
On Dec 23, 2025
In January, NJIT will host the New Jersey Science Olympiad tournament, at the university’s Campus Center Ballroom and Makerspace.
About 700 high school and middle school students and coaches will participate in the STEM competition, representing dozens of schools across the state of New Jersey.
The annual interscholastic tournament encourages hands-on learning through projects that promote teamwork, critical thinking and collaborative problem-solving.
Students will compete in events that showcase the teams’ constructions, demonstrating their understanding of mechanical engineering, aerodynamics, robotics and physics. All events align closely with Next Generation Science Standards.
Results of the tournament will be posted on the New Jersey Science Olympiad website, and awards will be sent to the schools.
Fifty teams are registered from schools across New Jersey. There are 20 teams in the middle school division and 30 in the high school division. In total, this includes about 700 students and coaches from about 45 schools.
