The Science City of Muñoz, Nueva Ecija, led by Mayor Baby Armi Alvarez, has commemorated the 129th death anniversary of national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal.
The city government urged the people of Muñoz to rekindle the fire of patriotism that Rizal showed during his time.
Maligaya at makabuluhang Rizal Day Lungsod Agham ng Muñoz!” the local government said.
December 30 is a national holiday to remember Rizal’s execution in 1896 after he fought the Spanish colonizers through his works and writings.
According to the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP), Rizal’s death set off a sequence of events that eventually led to the country’s freedom from 333 years of Spanish colonial rule.
This year’s celebration has the theme “RIZAL: Sa Pagbangon ng mga Mamamayan, Aral at Diwa Mo ang Tunay na Gabay.”
