Holy Trinity Catholic School junior Ellie Hellman has been selected to the Junior Advisory Board for the State Science & Technology Fair of Iowa(SSTFI).
HTC science fair advisor Ernie Schiller states that Hellman’s commitment to science and science research has been so evident in her quest to investigate many different fields of science. She will serve a one year term with other dedicated high school science students, giving advice to members of the SSTFI standing committee and volunteers. Hellman has also been showing her volunteer efforts in helping younger HTC students, mentoring them in their science research projects.
Congratulations are also extended to Hellman, sophomore Emma Menke and freshman Brooklyn Forsythe for being selected to represent Iowa at the National Association of Academies of Science at their national science meeting in Arizona. All three will be exhibiting their science research at the University of Arizona Feb. 11-16 along with students from 40 states. The girls will be part of the Iowa contingency selected for their science queries and their diligence at solving the world’s problems. Schiller stated “All three girls are to be commended for their dedication and their achievement and for being selected to represent the State of Iowa at this national science conclave. Thanks to Friends of HTC for assisting in getting these three dynamic young ladies to this national event.”
As the HTC Science Research Club prepares for the upcoming science fair season, the community is invited to participate in the local HTC Science Fair to be held at HTC gymnasium in Fort Madison on Wednesday, Feb. 4 in the afternoon and concluding with final judging and a fundraising dinner sponsored by the HTC Science Boosters, followed by an awards ceremony. Schiller stated that judges are needed, “as this is the largest number of HTC Science Club Researchers ever and we need help with judging and sponsors for awards.”
