ALLENTOWN, Pa. – On Saturday, 12 companies went head-to-head to see who could come out on top at this year’s Ice Cream Wars at the Da Vinci Science Center in Allentown.
What’s the recipe for a delicious Ice Cream Wars?
It’s lots of sugar and milk, lots and lots of liquid nitrogen, a ton of hard work and creativity.
Executive Director and CEO of the Da Vinci Science Center, Lin Erickson said, “We have a large team on staff that works on it, and they work individually with the companies, so all the companies have to come up with their own flavors.”
Flavors and themes to go along with them. “Today we had themes from everything from Taylor Swift to Saquon Barkley,” said Erickson. As well as K-Pop Demon Hunter and Minecraft, just to name a few.
WFMZ 69 News once again got in on the action creating our very own Saquon Sundae.
This this the 15th year for Ice Cream Wars and it’s always a fun way to sneak in a little science. A crash course on how liquid nitrogen takes milk and blends it into creamy ice cream.
This year saw one of the biggest crowds. “We had over 2,200 people here today and most people are sampling every flavor,” said Erickson.
Sampling and voting; this is a competition after all.
In the end, City Center Group won the “People’s Choice” award with their hot chocolate ice cream. WFMZ won for “Best Teamwork.”
Everyone went home with their bellies full of yummy ice cream.
