The Great Lakes Science Center’s newly announced exhibition, opening May 21, features over 200 artifacts recovered from the wreck of the Titanic.
CLEVELAND — Cleveland’s Great Lakes Science Center will offer a new way for guests to immerse themselves in one of history’s most iconic disasters with “TITANIC: The Artifact Exhibition.”
The exhibition, opening May 21, features over 200 artifacts recovered from the site of the shipwreck, life-size reconstructions of rooms on the Ship of Dreams and a virtual reality experience billed as “the most detailed and complete VR tour of Titanic ever created, including areas of the Ship that weren’t previously visible to the public.”
The exhibit produced by E/M Group and RMS Titanic Inc. (RMST) has traveled across the world, reaching more than 37 million visitors. RMST says it has conducted nine “research and recovery” missions since 1987 and recovered more than 5,500 artifacts.
“This carefully curated set of real artifacts tells the story of Titanic from her construction, the human stories of her passengers and crew, and the trauma of her sinking and decades under the ocean,” said Tomasina Ray, President of RMS Titanic, Inc. and Director of Collections. “We’re excited to share not only the real artifacts, but the enhancement of the partnership with Titanic: Honor & Glory which allows visitors to experience the artifacts as they were in 1912—when they sank after only four days at sea.”
The Great Lakes Science Center’s presentation of the exhibit will include a local hook for Northeast Ohio visitors, offering a historical perspective and stories of passengers with ties to Ohio.
Tickets went on sale Friday on the Science Center’s website. Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for children and $12 for members, with tickets for the VR experience sold separately. Guests can get a $5 discount when combining the exhibit with general admission tickets to the Science Center.
