CHICO, Calif. — A new interactive exhibit, Motion Mania, opened at Gateway Science Museum on Thursday and will run through May 16. The exhibit offers visitors a chance to explore the science behind motion through hands-on activities.
According to the Gateway Science Museum, Motion Mania allows visitors to delve into concepts like force, energy and stability. Participants can build roller coasters and test energy tracks, encouraging scientific inquiry and experimentation.
“The whole gallery is filled with balls and tracks! By building your own roller coasters, visitors will practice science in real time. By asking the right questions and changing the design along the way, visitors learn a variety of scientific ideas and that is exciting!” said Maggie Pierce, a Gateway Curiosity Guide and Chico State Earth science master’s student.
Field trips for elementary and middle school students, grades 1-6, will start on January 27. Scholarships are available for schools in need, supported by the Children’s Science Education Endowment Fund.
The exhibit was developed by the Ontario Science Centre and is locally sponsored by the Children’s Science Education Endowment Fund, the McAmis Family Exhibit Endowment and William Hassenzahl.
