Emporia State University’s Prophet Aquatic Research and Outreach Center will partner with the David Traylor Zoo of Emporia to mark the 165th birthday of the State of Kansas with a Science Saturday event focused on Kansas history and ecology.
The event is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 24, from 10 a.m. to noon at the David Traylor Zoo Education Center.
Attendees will have the opportunity to view live animals native to Kansas and learn about local plants, ecosystems and how the state has changed over the past several centuries. Participating organizations will host informational booths and zoo tours highlighting Kansas wildlife and natural resources.
The event will conclude with a free live concert at the zoo featuring Annie Wilson of the Tallgrass Express Band. Wilson performs bluegrass music centered on the Flint Hills and was named the Flint Hills Balladeer of Kansas in 2013.
The event is free and open to the public, but registration is required at esuparoc.com. Proof of registration will be required for entry. Each attendee must register individually.
