Nearly 16,000 women set world record for largest Biya Naam performance in Duliajan to make it to the American Book of Records
After Bihu’s global acsent, Biya Naam (traditional Assamese wedding songs) have now made its way to receiving global attention and has officially been inducted into the American Book of Records.
Nehru Maidan in Duliajan was transformed into a sea of cultural heritage today after 15,999 women Ayotees (women performers) gathered to perform these timeless melodies to successfully set a new world record, showcasing the vibrancy of Assam’s age-old traditions on an international stage.
Key Highlights of the Event
The event was a collaborative effort between the Duliajan Sanmilita Ayotee Cultural Group and Sivasagar District Sanmilita Surujmukhi Shilpi Samaj with a staggering 15,999 participants travelling from across the State to take part in this cultural milestone.
The performers sang continuously for 35 minutes, captivating the audience and adjudicators alike.
Beyond the record, the organizers aimed to promote and preserve Biya Naam, an inseparable part of Assamese social fabric, that has been passed down through generations.
Biya Naam, for centuries, has been the soul of Assamese weddings, reflecting the emotions, rituals, and communal spirit of the land although urban weddings have now seen a corroding of such performances.
By bringing nearly 16,000 voices together, the organizers have not only secured a place in the record books but are also trying to ensure that this traditional art form resonates with the younger generations in the days and years to come.
