First destroys nine units at self storage business in Jasper
Jasper — First responders have contained and put out a fire that destroyed nine units at a self storage unit business in Jasper.A KFDM/Fox 4 viewer alerted us to the fire at Lunker Lockers, 4192 North Wheeler Street (Highway 96) in Jasper.The fire was reported before noon and smoke from the flames could be seen miles away The extent of the flames and smoke prompted the Jasper Fire Department to call for assistance from the Lake Rayburn and East End Fire Departments.No injuries are reported.By 1 p.m., the flames were contained but smoke was still pouring from one building containing several units.The cause is under investigation. Jasper Fire Chief Brandon Duckworth says a preliminary report indicates an extension cord used to charge a four-wheeler in one of the units may have sparked the fire, according to our media partner, KJAS.Items in the units that burned include clothes dryers, washing machines, dining room furniture, even a motor home and pontoon boat.On its website, the company explains its services:Our brand-new climate-controlled self storage units are perfect for storing your furniture, appliances, and more!
